Welcome to the Ontario Retirement Communities Association
(ORCA) website. We are a voluntary, non-profit association established in 1977 that sets professional operating standards, inspect and accredit
retirement residences in Ontario. Here are some answers to common questions
people have about retirement residences and ORCA:
What are retirement residences?
- Private pay accommodation that offers a flexible lifestyle option
for seniors who are active and independent and who want to make their
own choices
- Retirement residence living lets you choose how much to do for yourself,
how much to have done for you, how to spend your time and who to spend
it with
Why live in a retirement residence?
- Peace-of-mind. No worries about frozen pipes, break-ins, missed medication or "what would happen if I fell?"
- Companionship. Living with others who share your memories of yesterday and your interests of today.
- Fulfillment. Opportunities to enjoy current interests or develop new ones.
- Privacy. As much or as little as you want. Entertain in your own suite or join a group for an outing. It's your choice.
What about meals and nursing care?
- All ORCA member retirement residences have dining rooms that offer
a full range of meal options.
- Some nursing services are provided. More can be purchased if needed.
Why should I look for an ORCA member residence?
- Not all retirement residences are an approved member of ORCA. Members of ORCA must meet and maintain standards for accreditation which pertain to the operational policies, procedures and staff education essential to fulfilling legislated obligations and the maintenance of a safe, comfortable living environment for residents. Only ORCA member residences are monitored to
ensure they comply with industry standards. ORCA membership is your best assurance of quality and peace of mind.
